How writers help other writers

While I was busy at Book Expo America recently, my local writers' group had a breakfast meeting. Sometimes we kvetch, sometimes we actually accomplish something. This must have been a great meeting, because one of the members was so inspired that she went straight home and got to work on a project she'd been putting off for months. Three weeks later, she has a gorgeous book proposal ready to go out into the world. I asked what happened at that breakfast meeting. She said everyone told her she had to do it, no excuses. Two members offered to provide child care if she needed it. This is the kind of support we provide for one another. It's not just editing and brainstorming. There are times when we all need a push from those who believe in us. It is amazing what people can do when they have the confidence that comes with knowing they're not going it alone.
